SOUND CREATION GONGS / New Earth Gong Design?
« Last post by Sound Creation Rob on October 18, 2013, 04:29:41 pm »
I bought a 26" SC #3 Earth gong in 2005. It's wonderful sounding and it's a very beautiful looking gong. A couple years ago I bought a 32" Earth gong. When I opened the box I remember being disappointed with the LOOK of the gong . . . I know SOUND is the most important thing. It seemed as if it had only received about half of the hammering that I would have expected . . . I love this gong now - although my 26" gong sounds darker and deeper. I want to buy a 38" Earth this year. I see on the site that the image of the SC Earth gong has now changed. It seems there is less hammering on these gongs now. Anyone else have any feedback?

Having said all of this - I do love my 32" Earth gong. I just wish it was a closer match visually to the 26".

I performed a full concert on just Gongs/Bells/Singing Bowls/Sound Plates/Cymbals etc. in a beautiful old church yesterday. The sound was wonderful. I played my own compositions and a few improvisations. Much fun despite the hectic set up.

Here is my full set up for the day:

I took ownership of these two last week, A second octave Tuned Gong and No1 Sound Creation Sun Gong. Im looking for a second octave B and D note, so if your willing to ship to Australia, PM me.

I would of liked to have seen the Sun Gong being formed, given its shape. Very interesting and a credit to Walter/ Rudy(not sure who to credit for this Gong). Maybe somebody might enlighten me.

Kind regards

GONG EVENTS / The Experience of INUKSUIT
« Last post by Michael Bettine on September 14, 2013, 12:52:30 am »
On Saturday, September 7, I was involved in a presentation of composer John Luther Adams' monumental piece, INUKSUIT. This is written for 99 percussionists and is meant to be performed outside. We performed it at a 40 acre sculpture garden here in Milwaukee. The percussionists came from all over, most from Universities and high schools, with a few of us professionals. INUKSUIT has 3 groups of performers: -conch, siren, triangle; 2-shakers/rattles, drums, cymbal; and 3-Gong, cymbals, glockenspiel. I chose to be in group 3 and used a 32" SC Earth Gong, with 7 different Paiste cymbals from 10" - 21".

After surviving torrential rain early in the day, the skies cleared up and we put on an amazing 80 minute performance. There was a very large and appreciative audience. The main thing I like about the piece is that it removes the barrier between performer & audience. At times, I had people literally in my face while I played. Quite an experience.

You can read my blog all about it here:http://percussiondeconstruction.blogspot.com/2013/09/the-experience-of-inuksuit.html There are more photos and links to 2 reviews and 2 videos on YouTube.
SOUND CREATION GONGS / Re: What sound creation gongs do you own?

Up until last night I ddin't own any SC gongs, but my offer was accepted on an already resonably priced SC #7 Fight/Confrontation gong on eBay that was being sold by it's original owner and looked to be in great shape (comes with a stand and case too). Hopefully it will arrive by middle of next week just in time for a couple of gong gigs coming up at the end of the month.

A 32" SC #3 Earth is next on my list.

GONG EVENTS / Gong Meditation with Kosma Solarius
« Last post by jens zygar on August 28, 2013, 10:17:31 am »
Gongs are sounding all over the planet theses days and the Gong Meditation in one of the probably most beautiful Yoga Centres in the world is an outstanding experience. The Gongmaster Koh Phangan is Kosma Solarius, a student of Jens Zygar, He handles a legendary gong set as some of his instruments are the first planetary tuned gongs ever made by Paiste. Their unique sounds could be heard on many Star Sounds Orchestra events and the feel of their cosmic space sounds gives the weekly gong meditations in Orion Healing Center downton Shri Tanu on Koh Phangan south of Thailand, a special ambience.
